What to visit for free in Toledo
2025-02-05
Spain is my favorite destination. If you are in Spain, Toledo is a must. It captures many of the transformations Iberia has suffered over 2 millenia. After visiting so many museums in my life, I realized that many places justify their prices by dumping a lot of information on you, while all you wanted to see was some nice architecture and historical site.
Free stuff to do
Like a wise person once said, open source software is a gift. Free and cool things to see are also a gift, so I am putting some of them here.
Ruins of the Roman Circus
Just out of the city, near hospital de Tavera, by Avenida de la Reconquista. The ruins from a small stadium from those times where the “biga” and “cuadrigas” races were held. Now transformed in park.
Wall and different gates (Puertas)
One of the main attractions are Puerta de Bisagra and Puerta del Sol. You can reach them by foot and they are nice.
Cathedral in the Morning
From 8:00am to 9:15am you can enter the Cathedral for Free though “Puerta del Reloj”. Just make sure not to disturb the mass.
Taller del Moro
Old palace that was reconditioned into palace. Has very beautiful arabesque gypsum decorations and pottery inside.
Getting to Toledo
Extremely easy. I recommend taking the VAC-023 bus from Plaza Elíptica. If you have “Abono Joven”, you can get there for free.
