Here I am summarizing the research of over 3 years that I conducted while studying at USP-Brazil.

Background

Directed Energy Deposition is an Additive Manufacturing process that delivers metal to a region called melt pool. Our setup was based on laser as a heat input and metal powder as a material source, but DED can also use wire as an input material and electric arc as energy input.

My contributions

Heatmap

We wanted to plot what happened to the process in a graphical way. I created heatmap for that, which is a tool capable of getting CSV files and generating nice plots.

G-Code converter

For some reason (i will explain), the researchers wanted to use a FDM 3D printer slicer software into a bigger machine. Nice idea. Then, they wanted me to create a script capable of converting code from one CSV format into another.

CNN metal

From 2021 onwards, we started using a coaxial camera, and we were able to effectively extract information from that camera. The coolest thing?
