I started working in Laser Welding in January 2024 as a part time research assistant at the University of Turku. My goal there was to perform process monitoring using a coxial camera and acoustic microphones

Background

Laser Welding in a manufacturing process that joins metals using laser. It has a series of advantages over arc welding and other conventional techniques, but it also has new challenges, such as cracking and porosity. Having a system that monitors it and self controls without human intervention allows for better process quality and allows it to be certified for structural usage (which is currently not the case).
